A Pre-Professional Program

Why Study Pre-Radiology?

The pre-radiology program focuses on fundamentals of chemistry, biology and psychology to meet the needs of employment in the medical field. Content learned at Northwest allows students to have the skills and prerequisites to apply and be accepted to professional radiological science schools.

Profession-based Experiences

Partnerships faculty have with organizations in the city of Maryville and surrounding communities offer students hands-on experiences that prepare them for successful careers such as:

  • job shadowing at SSM Health Hospital
  • working as a certified nursing assistant or aid at one of six nursing homes
  • working at assisted living facilities
  • shadowing nurses at Mosiac Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri
  • enrolling in emergency management training at Northwest

Center for Innvoation

With more than 26 labs in the Garrett-Strong Science Building and $3 million invested in state-of-the-art equipment in the Dean L. Hubbard Center for Innovation, students get multiple hands-on experiences to ensure they are prepared for radiology school.

Articulation Agreements

While acceptance into the program is highly competitive, Northwest’s articulation agreement with Saint Luke's Hospital School of Radiologic Technology guarantees two seats to Northwest students. Qualified applicants are selected based on Saint Luke's School of Radiologic Technology requirements:

  • Quality of academic work completed during first two years of study (courses required for degree, taken at Northwest)
  • Completion of Northwest courses required for degree prior to June 1 of application year
  • Minimum 2.5 grade-point average
  • Admission to the clinical program is decided entirely by the Saint Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology
  • Acceptance into Northwest does not guarantee acceptance by an affiliated clinical program

Admission to the above listed clinical programs are decided entirely by the affiliated clinical program.
